In the absence of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker (and replaced with wooden actors including a slightly bored Sonny Chiba) the car porn series enters its third round. Relocates its high-powered party for racing junkies to a neon Tokyo that looks like a giant playground for overage-looking minors. At the latest this part reveals what this film series is really about so far. Not only that the fast cars are drive-controlled sticks of male potency, no, this is about the competition to pick up the hottest woman. To have her as prize money, as a winner's certificate and then to be allowed to fiddle with her V-belt. Like in a bad caricature of a teen movie, pubescent masculinity between macho tantrums, recognition and sexual frustration is compensated by pushing the accelerator pedal and hits exactly the intellectual core of the target audience.
Tokyo Drift is one of the weakest entries in this franchise, but perhaps the best/most honest in its primitive self-revelation.
