Morgan

Morgan

Watched on Blu-Ray

Meanwhile I praise the ground on which Anya Taylor-Joy walks. That's why I occasionally watch mediocre films in her filmography, although I already know them.

I mean, Morgan reminds me somehow of 60s sci-fi horror films in terms of the premise, only with the cinematic features of the present.

This could all be much more complex in terms of the story and far less superficial in terms of the characters, but Morgan entertained me on several occasions and I was able to overcome the discrepancies, which undoubtedly exist, without any problems. Perhaps it's because I work in the administration of a scientific institute, and I see on a daily basis how scientists depend on third-party funding from external institutions. If these funds do not flow, the projects will look bad. So I can understand the dedication and fears the scientists show in this film.

The decision to cut the film to about 90 minutes helps the pacing enormously, but unfortunately the potential of the characters is far from exhausted.

The staging is rock solid and the cast is actually too good for the quality of the movie. Many actors like Toby Jones, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Paul Giamatti or Brian Cox are just far too rare to be seen. Brian Cox has exactly one scene. That's what I call a waste!

I found the relationship between Anya-Taylor-Joy's Morgan and the behavioural scientist, played by the wonderful Rose Leslie, a success. Morgan's vulnerability, but also her penchant for violence, is conveyed by Anya through her very discreet facial expressions. She has what you can call a unique face.

Kate Mara is actually quite badass in the role of the stoic examiner. The fight scenes with her at the end are quite short, but clear, which couldn't have been expected.

All in all Luke Scott delivered a solid movie. I don't blame him for his scientists acting extremely stupid every now and then, as he probably had the most inappropriate teacher: his own father, who proved with Prometheus, that scientists don't always act rationally.
