Wesley Snipes was a big deal at the box office in the nineties. Films like "Passenger 57", "Demolition Man" and "Drop Zone" made him a well-paid star. Together with buddy Woody Harrelson he was also successful in 1992 in "White Men can't Jump". And what could be more natural than to repeat this collaboration in a snappy action film? With 'Money Train' they wanted to produce another box office hit, but soon had to learn that this time the calculation didn't really work out. The film fell far short of its budget and had to be booked as a flop.

Yet "Money Train" doesn't do too much wrong, especially at the beginning. With the introduction of the brothers and their living situation, the addition of "Latino Heat" Jennifer Lopez (in one of her first cinema roles) and the lavishly performed action, the film picks up speed nicely, but then gets bogged down in its story. The jokes are cut, the plot is a mess and the focus is more on action. As a result, the film loses its charm and ends up as a nineties action film that you almost know by heart. But at least Wesley Snipes got to screw La Lopez...

In terms of acting, we get solid work from two stars, one of whom has disappeared a little from the big screen in the meantime. Wesley Snipes has been trying to find his feet again for a while and only gets interesting roles sporadically, while Harrelson appears in big films and film series without interruption. Jennifer Lopez obviously wants to be more than just a nice accessory in "Money Train", but a boxing match against her colleague is not enough for that. A terrifying Robert Blake steals every scene he's in.

"Money Train" is a solid action film, but in the end it is not funny enough to be remembered. So we are left with the derailing train, a few nice lines and Wesley Snipes in a fighting mood. In the big pile of nineties action comedies, however, the film does not take one of the top places. Too bad, because more could have been made of the Snipes/Harrelson duo.
