How To Train Your Dragon tells a simple story about friendship, self-discovery, courage and tolerance. But how it's told!

As a cheerful, wonderfully turbulent adventure with a good portion of dry humor and pointed dialogue joke and as an action-packed roller coaster ride in 3D. The 3D effects support the effect of the animation in creative use.

The film is great fun for every age and has an enlightening effect, but never educational, which is rare these days.

The sound level in connection with the 3D effect makes the film an opulent, inspiring experience.

The first part of the series shines with lovable characters and despite the already 9 years old technology beautiful computer animated pictures and convinces with furious, extremely dynamic action scenes as well as the fine portrayal of Hiccup, our hero, and his problems.

There are some narrative bumps that I have noticed (arena fights in the mornings and secret Toothless maintenance in the afternoons is a bit repetitive), but these are compensated by really epic and emotional moments that hardly any other animation series apart from Pixar can offer in this quality.

The moment when Hiccup and Toothless, after having won the battle and meanwhile both injured, step out of the house, made my eyes water. The setting towards Hiccup's leg and Toothless's caudal fin is a strong image and a symbol of their attachment and the big adventure they had together.

Besides Toy Story my personal favourite animation series.
