In crystal-clear images full of dreadful coldness, underscored by constricting sound montages, "Ich seh Ich seh" undermines the security of a family that has been broken long ago, before the fatal consequences reach their crushing climax. With impressive intensity the film drills deep into childlike fears, tears gaping trenches through structures that should be unshakeable, creates great uneasiness and thus knows how to captivate enormously. The fact that the attentive viewer is actually much too early in the picture should not be a point of criticism, but the film is not focused enough on its punch line, it even refers to more cruelty through certainty. Only the exchange of its elegantly constructed subtlety for a very striking radicalism was not necessary, which does not necessarily make the lump in your throat any smaller.
Not a film for the whole family and the rare experience that even the most violent suspense can come from the German-speaking world. From Austria, to be precise, because traditionally we Germans don't have anything to do with that.
