I think that "Condorman" is a typical film that has aged very badly. This is not surprising as it is a 1981 Disney production aimed mainly at children.
The film is very naive and shows the adventures of a superhero spy who is clumsy but very inventive. Riding the wave of James Bond films full of gadgets, Condorman moves on several futuristic vehicles on water, on the road and in the air. His genuine efficiency, despite all his clumsiness, coupled with his imagination and sweet romantic musings make him a very likeable hero.
The pretty presence of Barbara Carrera adds a pinch of very delicate charm. The subtlety of her acting does not always match her facial features. This is a great pity. Of course, the story of this film is peppered with very cartoonish characters and does not escape exaggeration, which should make it easier for children to read.
Only Oliver Reed and Jean-Pierre Kalfon, who has little to say, perhaps play a reasonably sober game in their sparse roles. Michael Crawford and James Hampton as secret agents put on a mighty show in various disguises that will delight young children in particular.
The fiery and fast-paced ingredients give the story the spectacular it needs to thrill. As for me, I'm less enthused. The caricature makes it seem more and more like an old hoax and it's understandable that the film has been somewhat forgotten.
I watched this film on DVD because there was no other way. I can only regret that the print is so bad. I sincerely hope that the nanaroid nature of the film, which is from a different age, can survive and perhaps one day be restored.
