Watched on Disney +
"The Adventures of the Gummi Bears", "Darkwing Duck" or "Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers" were must-sees for Disney fans in the late 1980s or, in my case, the mid-90s. Rumours about remakes or reboots of these classics have been around for a long time, but now Andy Samberg and John Mulaney from the comedy troupe "The Lonely Island" have taken on the Disney chipmunks and present a comeback (not a reboot!) with "Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers" that is extremely good to watch. Especially as they seem to have had carte blanche to "use" characters from all over the Disney landscape.
"Chip'n'Dale: Rescue Rangers" is teeming with guest appearances, and we can hardly keep count of who all briefly pops his head into the camera. The Jungle Book bear Baloo jazzes across the stage, He-Man signs autographs, Scrooge McDuck shows up and even 80s star Paula Abdul takes her animated cat "Mr. Skat Cat" from the music video for Opposites Attract with her. So if you don't know what to do with the case of the two croissant detectives, you'd best try counting how many familiar figures pop in to this film.
The content of "Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers" is also appealing. A fast-paced case with the typical twists and turns, in which friendship and teamwork stand out and above all there is no shortage of stupid jokes. There are also repeated attempts at cheekiness, which we would have preferred to see more of in the end. In the end, Disney still has its thumb on it when it becomes too exaggerated.
"Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers" of course also lives from the fact that animated figures are combined with humans. In addition, the CGI enhancement of Chap and the omission of the bleeping voices once again incorporate factors that are pleasing and contribute to good entertainment. And as it should be by now, you can't turn it off after the end of the film, because we get another treat at the end.
