Watched in the cinema
Anna and the Apocalypse contains everything you would expect from a zombie movie - plus a huge number of surprisingly catchy musical songs that are sung convincingly by the sympathetic, unused performers.
Lead actress Ella Hunt totally reminds me of Anne Hathaway. Her natural charisma was very pleasant.
The only actor I already knew was Paul Kaye, who plays the sinister headmaster. He is wonderfully crazy. He is the only one who can not sing at all, but still does it with a dedication that it is a real pleasure.
The plot offers few surprises, but the fact that the protagonists are handled relatively uncompromising surprised me. It's less funny than I thought it would be. Especially at the end the dramatic scenes predominate. A lot of pop culture allusions sweeten the nerdy experience.
The film has a very high quality look and pleasant lighting. Some settings could come from an Edgar Wright movie (cuts on shifter).
I will definitely get the soundtrack. Especially the first 3 tracks are unbelievable good, snappy songs that give a good mood.
If you like zombie movies, you haven't an aversion against musicals and you want to beautify the magic of Christmas with a few bloody splashes, you should absolutely see Anna and the Apocalypse.
Strangely enough, only men were in the cinema. Girls, the movie is something for you too!
