watching this for the first time after Across The Spider-Verse feels like i’m watching a completely new movie.
after i saw Across The Spider-Verse for the first time i thought “wow this has so many references from the first movie and it perfectly connects”, but it’s more of Into The Spider-Verse just doing a fantastic job of setting up Miles’ story, unlike other sequels or franchises that just feel like add-on’s. rather than a regular movie about a superhero, it feels more like an origin story, or the start of a story that will tackle identity, finding your place in the world and the importance of family, both chosen & biological.
while we do get a bit of closure with Miles finding his true self with the leap of faith, the things he tackles expand in the sequel continuing the theme of identity. i definitely think by the time we get the final installment of the trilogy, we will have full closure and so will Miles.
