This is a fantastic movie. It has a ton of heart, and is incredibly earnest in it's message. The story is a bit meandering, but it ties together well. All of the performances are really stellar, and the animation is really dynamic and impressive.
The Wild Robot particularly excels in making complicated social topics easily readable. It has a clear philosopical stance that technology and community exist to combat a violent "state of nature" that threatens everyone in a community. But it also engages with some of the dangers technology can pose, and how institutional those dangers can be. I don't think its perfect; it posits assumptions about the "state of nature" and technology that are reductivist, but it is adept at grappling with multiple themes and levels of community, love and struggle. It may be a bit over optimistic in how capitalist technologies can be adapted to community needs, but I am glad it is engaging earnestly with issues in a nuanced, but clear way
