Twelve Crimes of Christmas
The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland is originally a children’s picture book. I haven’t read it yet, but looks like it has kept its original art style. I don’t know if a Christmas x Alice in Wonderland mash-up is revolutionary, but I’ve personally not seen one.
I loved its own spin on the Alice-verse, and the hand-drawn art style is just so charming! It also kept a whimsically bright-coloured palette, and it was an absolute delight of a watch! This is practically perfect in making a picture book “alive”! It really felt like the pages were coming to life in their animated form.
Fluffy pyjamas would make me bananas 🍌🎶
I didn’t mind the songs or rhyming, and the little gags made me chuckle. It’s common for picture books to be rhyming, so it felt like the world’s natural language. I would’ve LOVED this too if this had come out when I was younger. It’s exactly things like this that I would be excited to watch on tele at Christmas. That and Shark Tale (ended up being an annual festival watch as a kid).
This also gets bonus points for Gerald Butler and Emilia Clarke playing St. Nick and the Queen of Hearts, respectively. Clarke’s solo song was a highlight for me. They are both having ridiculous fun voicing these characters, so I was too!
The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland was a wholesome, heart-warming time. Pure Christmas joy, wrapped in picture book charm. What can I say? I enjoyed this festive treat a lot.
