revisiting la la land after a year… this one’s a rare piece of cinema and one of the most creative works of art i’ve ever experienced. there was a time where i used to watch la la land every week, singing along and crying where it’s needed.
it’s one of those movies that get the most genuine reaction from me. it’s devastating, it’s exciting, it’s colorful and it’s magical. every single shot of it is pure joy, it’s so rich in colours, which are a big part of the story in this one. the music is just outstanding, it’s ridiculous how powerful and different each song is, yet they all seem to connect to one another. just pure magic. damien chazelle’s love for cinema and music in the best way possible - it’s like a really great dream being translated and coming to life on the screen. the set and costume designs are out of this world, every little detail is so well made and produced.
sacrifices are have to be made in order to pursuit one’s dreams. no one promises you it will work out at the end, and you might lose one thing or two on your way there. the question is whether sacrificing everything is worth it or not?
it’s heartbreaking, genuine, exciting and makes you feel so much at once. what an exceptional work of art. emma stone and ryan gosling give the performance of a lifetime.
that last scene is just… breathking in every single way.
