I have so many thoughts about this movie, but the bottom line is that I just really really enjoyed it. The comparisons to Wake in Fright and Straw Dogs are apt, but this feels a lot more modern (saying why would be spoiling some things). It’s tense, entertaining, and interesting in ways expected and unexpected. Kitty Green already showed her directing chops with The Assistant, and this feels even more confident and dynamic. The script is more expansive, in scope and ideas, and Green and co-writer Oscar Redding do some really clever stuff to play with our expectations and sympathies.
I don’t wanna spoil it, but I really liked the ending.
