A gorgeously told story of bravery, cowardice, and coming of age. It is also one of those rare movies that would not work at all without the ending. Without spoiling it, the final few minutes brings into focus the not just the themes of the story, but imbues it with emotional heft--something largely missing from the movie up until then.
