I recently listened to the Best Movies Never Made episodes about the aborted Tales from the Crypt franchise, and rewatching this first entry for the first time in ages reminded me what a fun movie this is and what a shame it is that they didn't build on this success (Bordello of Blood is fine..). Ernest Dickerson does a terrific job keeping the story moving and having a blast, and man, the cast is just aces. Billy Zane especially is just oodles of mischievous fun. I also really appreciate William Sadler getting the chance to play a leading man. He's perfect for the role, bringing a sense of resilience and decency.
