I don’t think we appreciate Steven Soderbergh enough. His nimbleness as a director, effortlessly moving from genre to genre, almost always hitting the mark. I vastly prefer this remake to the original, in part because it’s so simple and clear. It’s about grief, but the key insight comes towards the end, as George Clooney’s character narrates:
“I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong.”
