RIP Wes Craven, thank you for this awesome franchise.
In his final film, 11 years after Scream 3, Craven puts together a GORGEOUS cast full of recognizable faces. After a disappointing third installment, Scream 4 comes back with a vengeance and provides amazing kills, twists, and performances.
The core trio is still kicking it: Campbell cannot be defeated, Arquette’s quirkiness worked better in this film, and Cox is less obnoxious than normal. Emma Roberts gives an iconic performance. I love me a good psycho bitch. Hayden Panettiere is adorable and I love her sarcasm. Alison Brie’s cameo is fun. The cast of the opening(s) is spectacular too.
The young Lucy Hale opener, into the Kristen Bell and Anna Paquin murder, into the Aimee Teegarden phone call/house raid/garage kill, is such an awesome way to start the movie. I appreciated the characters watching Shaun of the Dead (shoutout Edgar Wright). The massacre of the neighbor girl is WILD and possibly the bloodiest of the series. The parking garage kill of Alison Brie is suspenseful. The classic Scream speech about the movie (horror remakes in this case) is fun. Kirby’s house is nuts with some insane twists. Roberts beating herself up is the best scene of the movie, reminds me of Fight Club. And lastly, the hospital showdown is great.
