Jesus Christ I love this so much.
Holly Hunter. Wow. She is out of this world. Her performance was absolutely flawless. She controlled every room she entered with such force, and she was perfectly awkward. How did I laugh every time it cut to her crying? That dress too. Jeez. I would probably hate her character in real life but I love her in this movie.
Albert Brooks. “Prick, but in a good way.” He does the guy best friend who’s in love with her trope like no one else. His temper is so real; jokes always getting a little too mean; laughing at his failure; still helping out when he knows he’ll get no credit; etc. He’s hilarious and annoying and totally sympathetic.
William Hurt. Pretty boy. Gets handed everything. Represents the demise of the news. But we like him! He’s nice and sweet and he knows he’s getting lucky. He’s a goofball. He is a moral dilemma. He’s got charisma though!
James L. Brooks, I didn’t even know you directed movies. I knew you as an executive producer on The Simpsons. Well my friend, you were already on top before that. “Congratulations on history’s longest winning streak.”
