Something that I've been wanting to do for awhile, since Letterboxd doesn't have a DM or group chat feature, is use this film as a forum to ask you guys film related questions, because I'm genuinely curious as to what your guy's opinions are on a number of topics. If you guys think this is a fun idea, and want me to do more, let me know.
The first question I'd like to hear your thoughts on is: why do you think conservatives have given up on the arts? Specifically film.
This is not to say that there aren't conservatives invested in the artform, the current rise of conservative Christians on Letterboxd alone is very encouraging to see. But when you talk to the average conservative and ask their opinion on movies, odds are they'll talk to you like it's a waste of time.
Speaking anecdotally, I've had several conversations with friends of mine who have blatantly said that movies are a waste of time, and I should be focusing on more "productive" things. Anecdote it may be, I think it does speak to the general consensus among the typical American conservative. When you look at Hollywood directors, actors, YouTubers and other content creators, the majority of them are Left leaning. And I think the reason for this discrepancy is because the Right has surrendered the arts over to the Liberal establishment, because art is a "waste of time"
What do you think? Why do you think conservatives have given up on the arts? Or do you disagree with that premise altogether?
