HANNA (dune hive)’s review published on Letterboxd:
Cool! The first two-thirds are mostly a sort of remix of Gladiator: A Good Man™️ is captured and forced to fight for the entertainment and enrichment of his enemies, he’s grieving, he wins hearts and minds through his fighting prowess and heart of gold, The Dream of Rome, etc. But the differences are interesting enough: Maximus wanted Commodus’ head on a spike, Hanno wants all of Rome torn down to the studs. The differences from Gladiator compound over the course of the movie so the third act feels like entirely unfamiliar territory (you thought the Mescal/Pascal showdown from the trailers was the climax, it’s not!!) and I ended up really liking it! Really good action, good performances, good effects, idk I had a good time!
When Denzel said “I’m putting on this dress on, these rings, and I’m going crazy” he meant that!
