The Witch is such a great horror film. I can still remember the first time I saw it. It was then that Robert Eggers caught my eye, and I knew he was something you don’t come across very often.
This is slow burn horror at its finest! It’s not just about a witch, as the title suggests. It’s about how this family is affected by a seemingly supernatural force. Similar to Hereditary, it’s more about the characters rather than the scares. The script is fantastic, the dialogue feels incredible authentic and real to the time period! The film also looks gorgeous! With all natural lighting and little to no CGI, it certainly makes for a visually stunning film, also thanks to the cinematographer! I also loved how little they showed of the witch, how they built it up! The entire film is really just so suspenseful! Pretty much everything about this movie is unique and unconventional, which I love!
The Witch still remains a masterpiece of modern horror.
