I was interested in seeing this movie but I didn't know what to expect. I liked the idea of a high school version of Frankenstein that felt like a mixture of movies like Edward Scissorhands, Heathers, and Weird Science so I checked it out.
Lisa Frankenstein was a lot of fun. I will admit that I am getting tired of seeing so many nostalgia throwbacks, particularly towards the 80s, but I appreciate this film for being its own thing (even though it does have a lot of familiar 80s tropes).
I can see this develop a cult following in the near future similar to another Diablo Cody horror-comedy, Jennifer's Body. I enjoy this one a bit more for its campy, darkly twisted bonkers tone and genre mixing story but both are smart in their own ways.
Yes every scene has some obvious flaw whether it is a character doing something dumb or having a reaction that makes no sense....but if you have seen any studio film from the 1980s, I think that is expected. It very much follows 80s film logic.
I hope Lisa Frankenstein does well with audiences. It's not perfect by any means and is more of a guilty pleasure film overall but if this interest you in the slightest, I recommend it.
