Heretic was one of my most anticipated films for the rest of 2024. I'm a sucker for psychological horror films where someone puts two or more characters into a mind game that either deconstructs or challenges their view on something big. I finally got a chance to see the film and I'm glad to say that it surpassed my expectations. I had a great time!

While the directing and cinematography are very good, the movie relies a lot on its script as well as the acting and those are easily the best parts of the film. The Oscars should probably consider nominating this for Best Original Screenplay next year! This is some of the sharpest and most thought-provoking writing out of any movie in 2024. It does an excellent job deconstructing its subject matter (while never being too harsh), and even has a good sense of humor.

Hugh Grant gives perhaps my favorite performance of his as the jovial, charming but still sinister Mr. Reed. The two actresses who play the mormon sisters, Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East deserve a lot of praise as well because they are just as great!

My only issue with the film is I wish what it all amounted to in the second half left a stronger impact. It's not a bad idea/reveal but I think it could have gone a little deeper.

I really could go on about why Heretic is great but I urge you to go see it for yourself and form your own opinions. I'm looking forward to seeing this again!
