While it’s not a new concept at all, it feels like the crazy-rage theme are the new zombie movie. That’s not a bad thing, but if you’re going there you’d better have a really good angle on it. Problem here is that for a movie that’s meant to be about going no holds barred, it felt really restrained and pretty tame.
Maybe that’s on me. I was expecting something a bit more uncontrolled and animalistic, a la The Sadness, but this virus didn’t appear to make you crazy and raw. It supposedly removes your inhibition so you’re not worried about doing anything. The way our main characters portrayed it, they still had self control and still had choice. So maybe the virus is just the nudge? Removes the angel on your shoulder and only leaves the devil? It felt inconsistent. And that’s the card that brings it all tumbling down, because the loophole is that you’re supposed to be insane and out of control and that’s why you're not held accountable.
I dunno. I guess don’t think about it. This ain’t a serious or clever film. It’s just easy no thinking entertainment. It did its job, but if I wanted something energetic, fun, and chaotic I feel like there’s other things I’d go to first.
Also, there’s a surprisingly low amount of fucking given what they alluded to. Guess the biggest barrier to this film being the best it could was the rating.
