The authorship's overtake!
The truly and concise deconstruction and innovation of an art form framework and already established concepts of the cinematic language.
Michel and Patricia are two dreamers that "fall in love" in the meanwhile of a police escape. As the film follows, we can spot a really lacking and recklessness of the society. Here, we have the classical Parisian Lovers seen through different lenses that really try to caption all sides of one's personality - something far from the theretofore archetypes of cinematic characters.
The film ends within the most teasing way, looking straightforwardly to the filmgoers and conveying a sense of authorship, authenticity and self awareness trying to come closer and at the same time - worshiping the audience. This stands as an iconoclastic symbol to the whole Nouvelle Vague and its cultural and artistic goals and suits as a manifesto. Furthermore, I just really appreciate the register of a youth filled with dreams and a dream of being loved and truly seen. Personally, I think the camera and the art in this film are really living beings because they do not judge the characters, although they don't completely endorse them too, but just capture a sense of irony and sarcasm - A footprint of the director's authorial and personal vision of the story. Somehow, Godard manage to balance the unpredictable outdoor hustling scenes with the most intimate slow-paced and indoor love scenes of the two characters.
I think the way that Godard makes an ode and homage to the classic cinema but literally puts a final end - knowing its importance but also claiming an innovative stance that was also open to all the possibilites that Nouvelle Vague would make possible.
