Maika Monroe is one of the best actresses around and that is an absolute fact, just like how this film is an awesome ride that will you leave on the edge of your seat for its entire runtime.
This was my most anticipated film of 2024 and it did not let me down one single bit. Not even joking this may be my number one of the year, could not be happier right now. From the opening scene of this film I knew it was gonna be a very fun time. This film does so well to pull so many emotions from its viewers whether that be shock, fear, anxiety and so on. The eeriness of the film is not something to mess around with, absolutely terrifying at points thanks to the excellent camerawork and use of sound design. There are some scenes in particular that had me feeling so uncomfortable but at the same time not wanting to take my eyes off the screen, I was mesmerized to what I was watching.
The cast are all excellent but of course Maika Monroe is the standout as she always is. Every time I get to see her in a film she never ever disappoints me. Probably my favorite actress working currently, she is just so effortless in everything that she does and as a viewer she is the perfect lead to be following along this story with. Hopefully she continues to be cast in exciting projects for the future.
Nicholas Cage is terrifyingly creepy. Seen complaints about the wackiness of his character but I think that is what makes it so perfect. He is a complete psycho who is so demented and they portray that so excellently. He plays the role to perfection and seeing him and Maika interact was just breathtaking (quite literally).
I love the thriller/horror vibe this film takes on. I found the story to be super interesting and original which was really nice. People saying the film was way too overhyped doesn’t mean it’s not good, a film can be overhyped but be brilliant at the same time.
I cannot wait to rewatch this because the film has so much depth and hidden meaning throughout that I would love to investigate some more. I do know already this is one of the best horror films I have ever seen. It is easily one of the best directed horror films and one of the best acted horror films ever.
