THE VVITCH — A New England Folktale
The well worded title had me interested but also skeptical. There’s just too many movies that have tried to travel down the eerie folktale trail only to end up forgotten. However this particular New England Folktale is thankfully the real deal and remains capable of living up to it’s initial (2015) release hype.
Friendly warning to viewers who don’t tend to gravitate towards independent artsy films: Director Robert Eggers filmed this unique folktale with an ample (and I mean ample!) use of slow burn storytelling techniques. And it might also be fair to say this folktale slowly unfolds more as an eerie psychological mystery rather than as a psychological horror, but either way it’s extraordinarily well done! If your a fan of period piece films with occasional jabs of horror, then at the very least you'll enjoy or maybe loving The VVitch!
