Seemingly assumes that it doesn’t need to make its characters compelling because we’ll automatically be invested, as we all love the original so much. Pedro Pascal is completely wasted, and so was Paul Mescal’s time at the gym as we get to see so little of him bare-chested. Did not enjoy those Caleb Landry Jones twins. Denzel is compelling, duh, but he could’ve done this in his sleep. The first few combats are actually interesting (those monstrous dog-monkeys!), but as the staked are supposed to get higher, the fights keep getting more underwhelming.
