One of the reasons why "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil" works so well is that it retains the typical elements of the genre while at the same time inverting them. Both, the menacing looking hillbillies and the college group are present. However, the perspective of this movie is shifted. While the alleged psychopaths are actually nice dudes, the students see them as dangerous monsters. This leads to numerous bizarre situations that are gory and super funny at the same time.
