Insanely beautiful from an artistic standpoint; it was downright inspiring to see something like this, encouraging and, honestly, very moving, to know we still have this kind of art to discover, that no, we haven’t seen everything yet, done everything, not by a long shot: bust those doors open, let everyone in, and see what fruits of labor pour forth, enough for all, enough to move us profoundly again. I have very minor qualms with a small handful of things (Miles’ dad being a cop not really being examined or confronted in a real way, some of the seams start to show at the end with the writing in particular and it falls into a moment or two of conventionality, and frankly, I wanted to spend more time with Gwen) but they’re so slight I can forgive them immediately. This is something you have to see to believe: the kid who laughed in absolute joy again and again behind me was as moving a part of this experience for me as anything else. Really glad they included that bit about Spider-man Noir spending a lot of time punching Nazis, too.
The very obnoxious people across from us (talking loudly, using their phones) were a downside, but that has nothing to do with the film. Don’t be a fucking asshole in the theater. You look like a jackass and it’s insanely fucking rude. I’m looking forward to seeing this again, admiring and appreciating it again. Coming from a person who usually no longer has any interest in spending money on Marvel: see this in a theater if you can.
