The way Sharits approaches breaking down his film strips in rephotography feels a bit like a novelty to me - how I felt watching Color Sound Frames and it’s how I feel here too. I admire just how comprehensive these exercises are for him, though, and obviously watching them on tape dubs means my opinions are irrelevant - would love to see the Analytical Studies presented as a cycle on film! Mostly makes me remember how brilliant Tscherkassky’s Motion Picture is, but I don’t think I could be too critical of any movie operating in that realm.
