I've been a huge fan of the comics since childhood. So despite all the realatibilty/nepotism drama pre-release, I was excited to see these characters in their natural state, true to their aesthetics, unlike that shitty Riverdale series on The CW.
I like that they created a setting that felt believable within an Indian context. The sets, the colors, the costumes—visually, it was super cute! Especially, the musical bit with the rollerskates. The girls did a wonderful job (I remember seeing the bloopers for it so that makes me wanna appreciate it a little more)
However, despite the expected simplicity and predictability in the plot.. it still ended up feeling plain and dull. There was a distinct absence of any connection with these people. Especially, the dialogues (not to forget, the non-existent humor) AND the acting by some of the newcomers which really failed to bring the vibrancy of the characters to life, which was disappointing given the nostalgic attachment I have to them
I had high expectations, particularly considering it was Zoya's project. But this just came out too juvenile, which was a bummer!
