14. Scream 4 (2011)
WILL THEY GUAC? Not quite.
Completely by coincidence, my girlfriend and I decided to start a rewatch of the Scream series right before the news was announced that season three of the MTV series would be released in a truncated miniseries version set to air on VH1. I remember watching and enjoying the first season of the show, though it was quite different in tone to Wes Craven’s mostly enjoyable film series.
Scream 4 is fine. It is leaps and bounds better than its predecessor and has a great return to gore. This film also gives Neve Campbell the opportunity to deliver one of the best lines of the franchise. I think Campbell’s overall trajectory is a bit of a shame. She is such a magnetic presence in this series — even in 3. I wish she would have gotten more work outside of this series. Luckily, we can always cherish her confident onscreen progression as ultimate final girl, Sidney Prescott.
