Ok, one last Spider-Man movie.
I’ve said before this film is great but didn’t know why I thought it was a 10/10. I just fell into the hype with everyone. This time, I can say “wow, this is phenomenal” purely for myself.
I love seeing a black Spider-Man, I see myself in Miles and I hope that everyone can no matter their colour. Even if they can’t, it’s ok because the diverse range of spider-people is fantastic. Peter B is a compelling and hilarious look at the practicality of being Spider-Man so long. Gwen is a confident yet emotionally flawed person who you can tell wants connection without being too stand-offish about it. Spider-Man Noir is a standout, nearly every line he has is hilarious. This film has an amazing sense of humour, visual gags and super well written dialogue, the only place it falls flat is Spider-Ham, too kiddy for me. But that’s ok.
Very emotional moments. As someone who just watched NWH, I’m still surprised that I went as crazy as I did throughout this film. Miles is a compelling main character, his arc is so well done and feels like a great remix of an origin story. Turns out that Spider-Man excels as a character when they find interesting new ways to tell a story of someone becoming Spider-Man through pain and responsibility.
A celebration of Spider-Man, a celebration of heroes and to me, a celebration of stories and the mediums we use to tell them. This film is exciting almost start to finish and breezes by in pacing. It has easily the best animation style with a constantly engaging way of presenting its story, great themes, everything comes together with a nice bow and an interesting tease.
Final thoughts are; I can’t believe this film is still the best spider-man movie. Finally after all these years, this is now one of my favourite movies ever. 10/10
