This movie left me cold, and I'm not talking about the weather.
There's not much to Hugh Glass as a character other than his single-minded pursuit of revenge, and that's the problem; the whole time, you're well aware you're watching DiCaprio the actor put himself through hell for the part (half the movie feels like an Oscar clip). Please, just give the man his golden statue so he can relax a a bit and do a comedy or two.
Hell, Tom Hardy has a better-rounded character. There's little emotional investment, so once Glass meets his goal, I just shrugged.
Of course, it's incredibly well made, with amazing photography and the kind of jaw-dropping scenery that makes you cream your pants. Iñárritu directs the hell out of it, too. But is there a reason to tell this story other than to show off and win awards? It's never boring but it's also not the kind of thing I want to watch twice.
