when it comes to my relationship with david lynch as a filmmaker, it’s honestly quite minimal. i remember watching Eraserhead when i was 13 and it’s a movie that i’ve wanted to rewatch since then as it honestly still hasn’t left my mind, even almost four years after watching it. for the next few years, i had wanted to check out the rest of his catalog but would always hold off from doing so for no particular reason. hell i originally wasn’t going to plan on watching this short today.
but then came the news.
as i was on the bus ride home from school, i had opened up instagram and the first thing i saw a post with the caption “david lynch (1946-2025)”. when i saw this, i was honestly in a state of shock and disbelief. the only time that the death of a celebrity ever emotionally impacted me in a similar way was with chadwick boseman in 2020. even then, that’s someone whose movies i had consistently watched for the last 4 years. this was a filmmaker who i had only been familiar with because of a single movie he directed that i watched and his cameo in The Fabelmans. why was it that his death impacted me this much?
to put it frankly, he’s one of those filmmakers whose work leaves an everlasting impression on the viewer. whether it’s positive or negative is up to said viewer but it’s still an everlasting impression nonetheless. i mentioned this earlier in the review, but i had only watched Eraserhead one time years ago and it’s still a movie that i still think about almost regularly.
he’s also a filmmaker whose work has left a significant mark on other creatives. for instance, one of my favorite films from last year was the luca guadagnino film Queer. that’s a movie that feels as though it’s stylistically inspired by the works of david lynch. one of my favorite shows from the last decade is the FX series Atlanta, and that’s a show where the creator (donald glover) has cited lynch’s Twin Peaks as an inspiration on the style and presentation of that show.
TL;DR, david lynch is a filmmaker whose work has left a massive impact on filmmaking and art. even if he’s no longer with us, his legacy won’t ever be forgotten by the filmmaking community.
rest in peace david🙏

]]>(season 2)
solid season but that being said what was that cliffhanger. like i know i’m not gonna have to wait too long since S3 is supposed to come out within the next nine months but also why the fuck would you end your season like that. it felt like we had an episode left but instead the season just ends randomly. it reminded me of house of the dragon where we spend time building towards the finale only for the season to not have an actual ending and to just end randomly.
other than that i still enjoyed the season and i’m excited to see how S3 is gonna end the story
]]>catherine zeta-jones in this movie might be the hottest that any woman has ever been in any movie. like it’s gobsmackingly insane how hot a single person can even be.
also it’s really funny how joker 2 was basically just a significantly worse version of this movie
]]>even though 2024 may have been my worst year mentally, it’s nice to know that I can at least cap off the year by watching one of pixar’s greatest achievements. happy new year everybody🙏
]]>Holy shit. I wanna cry so bad.
I was excited going into this because I’ve heard from people that this is one of Spielberg’s best, and in all honesty, it absolutely delivered. This genuinely might be his emotionally resonant, sincere, and thoughtful film of his entire career.
Everyone in this movie does a great job but man, Haley Joel Osment is absolutely the reason why this functions as well as it does. I obviously knew going in that he could act but after seeing this performance, it honestly made sense as to why he was Spielberg’s only choice for the role.
And man, that ending was an absolute gut punch. I remember seeing videos about this movie when I was younger and hearing from a couple of people online (more specifically Doug Walker) that it was the worst part about the movie, when in actuality, it brings the entire thing together. I obviously don’t wanna spoil it for people who haven’t seen it, but without the ending we got, this movie wouldn’t have the same effect to it.
Easily without a doubt in my top Spielberg films (alongside Jaws and The Fabelmans).
]]>merry crimbus everyone🙏

]]>The only reason this isn’t 5 stars is because at times the lighting and color grading look off. Other than that, what an absolutely amazing film. The year-long wait for Part 2 is gonna be crazy
]]>If I had to describe this movie, it’d be “a solid time that also should’ve been a lot better.” Obviously it’s a difficult task to try to make a follow-up to one of the most celebrated movies of the 21st century but considering that this has the same director, cinematographer, some of the actors, and even one of the original screenwriters (David Franzoni) coming back as a producer, this movie should’ve been an absolute slam dunk.
That being said every time Denzel Washington is on screen the movie basically turns into the film equivalent of a Michelin star restaurant
