We really underestimate Tom Hardy in this. I think a lot of people just think it’s a lot of scrambling around and grumbling. It’s such a strange, manic and almost monstrous physical presence, grumbling instead of speaking. But he’s just always so compelling to watch in every moment, watching him just move through a space and interact with an object is gripping in its own way. But when it comes time to sell the emotional undertones and character arc, he nails that too. The way you can see him reconnect with his own humanity just by saying “Max, my name is Max” is incredible. One of our best guys.
