Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Animated art surpassed, not necessarily at its expressive peak of comic-book structuralism manifestation, yet fully embracing all possible alternative means of audiovisual expression to convey a plethora of gimmicks out of this world. All neon colors, juxtapositions, transitions and jokes interacting in what is, ultimately, an audiovisual style of storytelling rather than just depending fully on a narrative or expressionistic/impressionistic form, Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse raises the bar on the possibility of the multiverse concept, properly applying effective humor throughout and emphasizing more ironies of the human conduct rather than the absurdity of the human essence itself.

The necessary step of growth in the character of Miles from the previous film, not only as a human being, but as a superhero more experimented in fighting crime, is so tangible that it is almost flawless; however, it takes that evolution as a given and goes one step further in what is, undeniably, the predecessor for an epic conclusion. There are two ways to proceed now: either the show presents a downfall in spirit, essence and audiovisual bravura, or the blockbuster animated medium will expose the epicness of animation as a serious cinematic genre non-secluded for a specific target market.

Original film surpassed, stakes raised, concept expanded, possibilities opened, and the intended explosion of imagination the multiverse subgenre by essence entails, Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse is not only a big step forward in the development of a humanly appealing story, but an expectation setter for greater magnitudes to come, some of which, perhaps, haven’t even been seen before. Dreaming is not illegal.
