Edgar Cochran ✝️’s review published on Letterboxd:
Mel Gibson turns to be a disgustingly sensationalist director one more time. Apocalypto ain't a very decent action film faithful to the Maya culture, since it didn't cover all of the cultural aspects and areas I expected from it. The concept of the Mayans given in this film is insulting and the only thing it teaches to foreign audiences (maybe even ignorant Mexican audiences) is that the Mayans were a very primitive, savage and merciless culture performer of sacrifice rituals and nothing more. They skip the fact that it was one of the most important, intelligent, artistical and brilliant cultures in Mexican history. Skip it since Mel Gibson fascinates himself once again with blood and violence in his films, totally ruining important history data.
