A lesser, inferior, more conservative and less daring Bamboozled (2000), and I can’t stop thanking the Criterion Collection and the National Film Registry for being the main catalysts that caused me to watch the film. Winner of an Oscar that should have gone to Spike Lee under the assumption that Oscars reflect actual quality over pop culture, Jeffrey Wright is terrific in his delivery and the screenplay pulls no punches when it stays on topic instead of sidetracking to unnecessary melodrama elements to ensure a more conventional western appeal; this is what messes up the screenplay for me. Despite the unevenness, there are jokes of terrific craft and smart editing that properly emphasize how modern society keeps profiting from racist and stereotypical sensationalisms in order to present themselves as “inclusive”, “understanding” and even “SJWs” (give me a break).
