Only doing one-half of Barbenheimer. Sorry, but nuclear physics and weapons of mass destruction is more of my jam.
Personally, my favorite Nolan film is Interstellar. Maybe not a lot of peoples’ favorite Nolan film, but I’m a sucker for quantum physics and interstellar (haha) travel.
However, after watching this one, I’d say it’s a strong contender for my favorite Nolan film. And not because I’m a Nolan shill or have a big crush on Florence Pugh (ok, maybe a little bit because of her), but because it’s an amazing film with a tightly woven narrative that asks some really big questions about the importance and regulation of nuclear weapons. Questions such as, “Was it necessary to create them in the first place?” among others.
But also questions from a filmmakers perspective like:
Is it Nolan’s best? Probably.
Is it a must-watch cinematic experience that deserves to be seen on the big-screen in an Imax theater the way it was intended? A resounding F**k yes!
The only thing that I would say that would prevent me from watching it theaters again is due to the theater speaker quality and volume. The theater I watched it in cranked all the way up to the point that the audio was clipping or distorted. As a music producer and sound designer, shame on you. Aside from that the sound design was phenomenal, but I would’ve enjoyed it more if it was a balanced volume. Probably would also suggest investing in some ear protection if you plan on seeing it, depending on the theater.
The fact still remains, this is a certified Nolan banger and he and his talented cast and crew outdid themselves with this one.
