What was the point?

While not great, The Strangers was a fine horror movie that had solid (albeit loud) jumpscares and good tension, though the characters could’ve been written better and if the first half wasn’t so boring. Prey at Night — its standalone sequel that I haven’t seen yet, might be good. But I’m skipping it for now for this bullshit. It was definitely a mistake on my end.

As the start of a trilogy, The Strangers: Chapter 1 could’ve been so much better. But no. It’s a fucking copy and paste of the original. It removes all of what made it so scary and realistic and even eradicated all of its themes. It becomes a bland and boring film that does absolutely nothing to even improve upon its predecessors. This shouldn’t have been a trilogy — let alone be a single film.

Both the direction and screenplay are downright horrendous, and bringing back the director of the original to conceive the story wasn’t a good idea. The main characters are unlikable and boring to watch. A majority of scenes are hilariously plagiarizing the fuck out of the first movie. I cannot fucking stand how annoying this film is because it’s LITERALLY the same bullshit people saw in 20-fucking-08.

By literally copying everything that made the original film decent, The Strangers: Chapter 1 makes every other bad horror movie of this year look like masterpieces, and I can officially declare this as my least favorite movie of 2024. I have absolutely no fucking hope for the next two movies because why were they even made? Those sons of bitches should’ve never touched the franchise again — but they had to do it for the money. Right? Anyways, don’t waste your time on this pls thx bye.
