im so on the fence about this film so i’ll just give it a 2.5. i think it honors its live show very well, but as a film it feels almost too grand and full of itself. it’s a 2 hour and 40 minutes part 1 that could’ve easily told the whole story in 3 1/2 hours. you can feel every ounce of its run time. also, what’s with the color man? the practical sets looks great and visually it’s cool but like why is it so bland? literally just mess with the color grading a bit.
okay now for the good stuff, as i said before the practical sets are really neat and impressive. it makes you feel like you’re there. the songs were catchy but the real highlight is ariana and cynthia as singers and as actresses. their voices are absolutely gorgeous. I SWEAR IF THEY DONT GIVE ARIANA AN OSCAR NOM IM GONNA RIOT. ariana was such a delight to watch and i want her to go back to acting so badly.
overall i had a decent time with this but it’s just such a mix bag for me.
