I’ll never be ok with that annoying ass prick, Jimmy Stewart’s voice...
I’m sorry, I just can’t stan this holiday classic like everyone else, I suppose it just isn’t my kind of flick. This has always come off as incredibly corny and boring to me. It’s way too fucking long and paced bizarrely, really doesn’t kick off till the last 30 minutes. Frank Capra’s direction is now just extraordinarily dated and sadly even seems to just be lacking in skill.
Editing choices are confusing as hell. Often times shots are so oddly set up that I can’t distinguish if it’s the editing or camera work that’s at fault. This was released at a time where film in America had finally seemed to begin to get increasingly techincal and artistic, this is noticeably weak.
As much as I hate ole Jimmy Stewart, I guess he does what he needs to. The majority of the roles are basic but they’re performed decently enough. It certainly has the holiday spirit engraved in it, that might be because of how often it is played, but I have always enjoyed seeing the joy of my parents when this plays.
