Horrifically bad. There is absolutely nothing of substance in The Strangers: Chapter One. I am not exaggerating when I say this is one of the worst films I’ve seen in awhile. It’s actually astounding how purposeless and dull this is; retelling the exact same story as the original but without flair or purpose. The “Chapter One” subtitle might lead you to think that this is an origin story of sorts for The Strangers, but it is anything but that. The titular killers don’t do much of anything at all. There are two entire kills in this PG-13 excuse for suspense horror. Tropey and boring beyond belief.
Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez’s romance chemistry is so unbelievable. Their mouths may be saying one thing, but their body language tells a different story. All of the cutesy dialogue delivery from Petsch had me cracking up; like girl, this isn’t Riverdale.
How are there two more chapters planned for this? The “to be continued” reads like a threat. There will be more!
