Oh deer…
…certainly unsettling at the outset - until the gratingly on-the-nose soundtrack stubbornly sets up camp for the duration - with some well delivered visuals and solid performances across the board…
…and yet something just didn’t land for me, as I spent too much of the unnecessarily overlong 140+ minutes wondering what Shyamalan or Peele might have done with it, crying out, as it does, for some kind of edge or vein of dark humour (like the final shot) to drive home the message. As it is, LTWB is ultimately a pretty forgettable time filler - disappointing given the stakes - that fails to deliver the eerie off-kilterness of the novel.
