Since its inception, I had no intention of watching the upcoming Mufasa. But, I have a strong feeling I’m going to end up watching it so I might as well watch it’s predecessor in its entirety for the very first time, something else I never had any intention of doing since its inception.
First let me state something, unlike a lot of other people, I have no problem with remakes. For thousands of years, theater has done remakes and different interpretations of stories. It’s not an uncommon thing. It’s just when it comes to popular movies (particularly with Disney) people feel this disinterest of something they’ve adored. Not to say that all remakes are great, they just need to taken with an open mind.
That being said, this adaptation of a lifelike CGI documentarian style…doesn’t work. The one major fault is that none, and I mean none of the animals in this show any kind of physical emotion. If you muted the dialogue, could tell at all how any of the characters are feeling? Even the verbal dialogue doesn’t feel all that invested. I don’t want to blame the actors on that but rather the blending of the dialogue with the bodies they’re coming from.
Now this movie is 30 minutes longer than the original, and it manages to go fast and slow at the same time. The scenes they add in this feel pointless and uninteresting. That’s pretty much how I would describe this movie. And we’re all suckers for putting this in the top 10 highest grossing animated films.
Will Mufasa be better or worse than this? We shall see.
