Many would agree that “The Lighthouse”, Robert Eggers’ second film, is even a step up to his debut film “The Witch”, but I feel what this film succeeds so well is delivering sadness and even *likable* characters. A nightmare of a film, you think “The Exorcist” is horrifying? You have never seen “The Witch” then.
Last decade was an incredible decade for horror movies, but this film must be the best one. A traditional folktale that is executed in unbelievable perfection. I caught myself touching my face in disbelief, in horror and then saying “isn’t it beautiful?”. I can’t stress this enough, but this is cinema
