Obviously flawed and messy as the second without that films consistent escalating comedic routines mixed in with aggressive action… but as sincere as ever and has the best scene of the trilogy in the back of a van. The comedy and action feel much more disparate this time, which is unfortunate. But I think partners in crime Tom Hardy and Kelly Marcel really leave it all out on the field by baring their naked soul and reason for tackling this series with such affection: it’s just a story of these two guys who needed each other, found each other, loved each other because they don’t know how to fit into this world any other way. It’s romantic! It has personality! Even if the tonal consistency is a mess for the majority of its runtime! What do you want from me. I still fail to see how these are any worse than the average superhero movie. Most movies don’t have Tom Hardy going sicko mode. These do. If Spider-Man 4 has funky Tom Hardy voices scaring the shit out of Tom Holland, I’ll actually watch it. Probably not in theaters but you never know.
Mrs. Chen got the biggest applause on opening night, which was nice.
I’ll miss you, Tom Hardy Eddie Brock/Venom movies! At least these last two. And that time he jumped into the lobster tank. That was fun. Hardy should do that in all movies.
