The warm, painterly style animation involving nature juxtaposed against the more cold, sterile animation was so fantastic. Naturally, I loved this. Classic tugging at the heartstrings. Sanders knows how to build to an emotional catharsis and provide more than efficient stakes for the narrative engine. I would probably suggest folding in the multiple finale climaxes spread out over 30-45 minutes into a single climax. Not a huge hangup but it makes the film feel longer in the tooth than need be. Otherwise, as emotionally resonant and moving as anything Chris Sanders has ever done.
We took my godson to this for his first movie and while he’s probably too young to retain any of this, those of us in the family now get to hold this memory dearly.
